Dr Talia Drew
Principal Clinical Psychologist

I am an experienced, compassionate, and curious psychologist who is passionate about supporting people with eating disorders and related difficulties. My therapeutic approach is integrative, neuroaffirmative, and evidence-based, developed through years of clinical work across a range of settings. I understand that coming to therapy can feel daunting, and my aim is to make the beginning of your journey feel safe and containing as we get to know each other and develop a shared understanding of your current challenges.

In our work together, I hope to support you in developing a deeper understanding of yourself and making meaningful changes aligned with your values and goals. This process often involves exploring the relationship you have with yourself - shaped by both past and present experiences - and cultivating greater compassion and empathy toward your struggles. My hope is that, over time, you will feel more confident and equipped to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and self-kindness.

Background and Training

I hold a BSc in Social Work and Applied Social Sciences from the University of Bath, an MSc in Psychology from the University of Surrey, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Surrey. My doctoral training equipped me with therapeutic skills in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third-wave approaches, including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Systemic Family Therapy. I am registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Since qualifying, I have spent several years working with children and young people with eating disorders within a South London NHS team. In this role, I provided evidence-based therapy for young people with Anorexia using FT-AN and CBT-E, for Bulimia using FT-BN and CBT-E, and for Binge Eating Disorder using CBT. I also developed and led a Compassion Focused Therapy group within our day programme after recognising the powerful role that shame and self-criticism can play in maintaining eating disorder symptoms and associated difficulties such as low self-esteem and generalised anxiety.

More recently, I have moved into an Adult Diabetes Service as a Principal Clinical Psychologist, where I explore the intersections between diabetes, food, eating, and body image, as well as the challenges of maintaining a valued life when the demands of a long-term condition become overwhelming. I have also previously worked in an Adult Eating Disorder Service, drawing primarily on CBT-E, MANTRA, CBT-10, and SSCM models.
